BECOME A CRITIC
The objective of this unit is that you will learn to:
1. Analyze a narrative story structure
2. Identify terms and concepts that serve the basis for movie reviews
3. Synthesize literary/visual concepts into a structured essay
Monday: Adjectives (good, bad, neutral)
Today, you will receive (2) handouts: "How to write a Movie Review; and your 'rubric' for writing your movie review. HOMEWORK: You are to search for a Review on a movie of your choice and print out a hard copy. The review should contain the following elements:
1.name of movie
2.type of movie
3.director
4.actors
5.movie summary
6.critique of movie (tell what critic thinks of the movie)
Tuesday:
>Today we will be go over the Movie Reviews and share examples of writing techniques from varying critics. The objective is to listen to how the critiques develop and word their opinions on all the aspects of the movie. We will pause and reflect/discuss after each area is covered in the examples.
Wednesday and Thursday & Friday:
LET THE SHOW BEGIN! Watch the movie 'Swing Kids'. I do not want you distracted by taking notes, however, view the movie with a critical eye! Think about plot; directing; casting; music score; cinematography; story development; lighting, etc. ENJOY THE SHOW!
HOMEWORK ON THURSDAY:
: Research some background information about the movie "Swing Kids' Find out who Directed the movie; was it an adapted screenplay or an original script; what about the cast?; what year was it made. Write down 10 interesting facts about the movie and turn it in Friday.
